Georgia shortstop Kolby Branch and Oklahoma second baseman Kyle Branch will face each other Monday night in Omaha after both teams won their Men’s College World Series openers.
A 7 p.m. ET matchup will send the winner to the right-side bracket final and a rest day until June 17, while the loser drops into an elimination game path.
Georgia reached Omaha as the No. 3 national seed after winning the SEC regular-season and tournament titles, while Oklahoma arrived through a tougher road that included a winner-take-all upset of Georgia Tech.
For Rusty and Kari Branch, the game reunites a family that has not been together since Christmas after weeks of crisscrossing between Athens, Atlanta, Lawrence and Texas to watch their four sons compete.
The brothers, 23 and 21, said the showdown is less rivalry than a full-circle family moment at the final stop of Kolby’s college career.
