Mega Staraptor looks like the leading candidate to dominate the new Pokémon Champions meta after Gholdengo’s Regulation M-B nerfs. The case for Mega Staraptor is the clearest in the available competitive analysis. It is repeatedly singled out as a major new threat, largely because of Contrary. That ability flips stat drops into boosts, meaning Close Combat can effectively make Mega Staraptor bulkier while it attacks. Combined with strong Attack and Speed, that gives it both immediate pressure and snowball potential in doubles play. Gholdengo’s decline helps open that lane. Regulation M-B removed Terastallization from Gholdengo, cut Make It Rain’s accuracy to 95%, and made the move drop Special Attack by two stages instead of one. That sharply reduces the consistency of one of the format’s most oppressive special attackers, creating more room for aggressive new Megas to take over. That said, “dominate” is still a projection, not a settled fact. Mega Metagross is also emerging as a top-tier attacker thanks to its elite stats and Tough Claws, while Mega Scrafty is drawing attention as a bulky Intimidate user that fits key support and Trick Room roles. Mega Eelektross and Mega Swampert also look format-defining in the right teams. Based on the current evidence, though, Mega Staraptor is the best answer: it is the new Mega most explicitly identified as a likely meta-warping force in Regulation M-B.
