Google has not publicly detailed a Google Photos-specific label for “Edit with Ask Photos” in Europe yet. What is clear is that, under the EU AI Act rules taking effect in August 2026, AI-generated or materially AI-edited images and videos must be marked so users can recognize them as manipulated. In practice, that means Google will likely need two layers of disclosure. One is a visible notice for people viewing the content, such as an on-image or on-video label indicating that it was AI-generated or AI-modified. EU guidance points toward standardized labels along the lines of “AI generated” or “AI modified,” and for video those notices may need to appear repeatedly, not just once. The second layer is machine-readable provenance data. Google already uses content credentials and related technologies such as C2PA metadata and SynthID-style watermarking in parts of its AI ecosystem. Those tools can record that AI was used, by whom, and when, and can support user-facing disclosures in products such as Google’s “About this image” information panels. So the short answer is that Google is expected to mark manipulated photos and videos with clear visible labels backed by embedded provenance metadata. But as of now, the company has not spelled out exactly how those labels will appear inside Google Photos for European users of conversational editing.

Five new markets — Germany, the UK, France, Spain and Italy — are now getting Google Photos' "Edit with Ask Photos," with the rollout starting immediately but arriving gradually.
The feature lets users edit images through text prompts such as removing glare, clearing background distractions or applying a sepia look inside the Google Photos app.
This expansion lifts availability from 4 countries to 9, after earlier launches in the US, Australia, India and Japan.
Android is the only platform supported in the new markets, while iOS access remains limited to the US.
