Q: Will Mackenzie Dern's jiu-jitsu be enough to stop challenger Gillian Robertson's impressive winning streak?

Possibly, but it is far from a sure thing. Dern’s jiu-jitsu is elite even by UFC title standards. She is a multiple-time world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has built her MMA success around a ground game that can end fights quickly once she secures position. She also enters UFC 330 with momentum, having won three straight and captured the vacant strawweight title in October. The complication is that Robertson is not the kind of challenger who is likely to be overwhelmed simply by grappling reputation. She is on a five-fight winning streak, is 6-1 since dropping to strawweight, and has beaten credible names including Marina Rodriguez and Amanda Lemos. Just as important, Robertson is a strong submission fighter herself and holds a reputation as one of the UFC’s most effective grapplers in the women’s divisions. That makes this less a case of Dern imposing jiu-jitsu on a striker and more a high-level grappling matchup where transitions, top control, and positional discipline may matter more than pure pedigree. Dern probably has the edge in technical jiu-jitsu and finishing danger, but Robertson’s form, durability, and own submission skill make her a very live threat. So Dern’s jiu-jitsu could absolutely be enough to stop the streak, but the evidence suggests it will need to be paired with smart MMA execution, not just superior credentials on the mat.
