American Priorities Pledges $2 Million to 3 NYC Progressives as Rivals Attack Dark-Money Ties

Summary
$2 million in promised support from American Priorities has jolted three New York City progressive primary races, with rivals accusing Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier and Brad Lander of hypocrisy over outside money.
The candidates say they did not know about the super PAC effort and cannot legally coordinate with it, instead pointing to their small-donor bases — including Valdez's 22,000 contributors.
American Priorities has already spent $500,000 on ads backing Avila Chevalier or attacking Rep. Adriano Espaillat; donor Hussein Mahrouq gave $400,000, while Mohammed Waqas Javed and Omer Hasan each contributed $1 million.
The attacks land as several opponents also benefit from independent spending: BOLD America has mounted a $2.5 million pro-Espaillat campaign, and a pro-Goldman PAC has spent more than $300,000.
The dispute over super PAC money is intensifying just before early voting begins Saturday in the 2026 New York primaries.
