Clark’s impact, though, is hard to overstate. Nancy Lieberman’s argument reflects a widely held view inside basketball: Clark’s arrival turbocharged attendance, ratings, ticket demand and national attention, strengthening the league’s leverage and urgency. The new CBA even includes mechanisms such as the EPIC provision that better reward elite young stars on rookie deals, a sign the league is adapting to the commercial reality players like Clark helped expose. So the pay jump was fundamentally driven by labor negotiations, media money and years of player advocacy. Clark’s role was as a catalyst: she made the league’s growth impossible to ignore and likely helped speed both the scale and timing of the financial reset.
