Oppo Reno 16 Global Variant Hits Geekbench With 12GB RAM as Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Replaces Dimensity

No—the affordable mid-range phone is under real pressure, but it is not gone. The Reno 16 illustrates the shift. In China, it starts at about $516, which is already closer to upper mid-range than “affordable” for many buyers. Oppo’s broader pricing also reflects the industry trend: in Southeast Asia, average selling prices rose 19% in early 2026, while Oppo’s own ASP rose 26% as it prioritized profitability over volume. The main driver is memory. Industry research cited in the background shows LPDDR prices for smartphones surged sharply between 2025 and 2026 as AI data centers absorbed more wafer capacity and memory makers favored higher-margin HBM. That has hit budget and mid-range Android phones hardest because memory now takes a much larger share of the bill of materials, leaving brands little room to hold prices steady. That does not mean the segment is dead. Phones under $300 still exist in 2026, including Samsung Galaxy A16 and A17-class devices and other budget models from Motorola and CMF. But the market is changing: truly cheap phones are becoming less viable, and “mid-range” is drifting upward in price. Brands are responding by trimming specs, reducing low-margin models, or pushing buyers toward higher tiers. For buyers, the practical takeaway is that affordable options remain, but the old formula of generous RAM, big storage and aggressive pricing is harder to sustain. For phones like the Reno 16, the era is not over, but it is becoming noticeably less affordable.

Geekbench listed the global Oppo Reno 16 under model number CPH2865, showing a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip paired with 12GB of RAM.
The device posted 1,240 single-core and 3,994 multi-core scores, offering an early look at performance ahead of any official global launch announcement.
That marks a chipset shift from the China-market Reno 16, which launched in May with MediaTek's Dimensity 8550 Super.
The Chinese model also carries a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, 200MP main camera and 6,700mAh battery, starting at CNY 3,499 for 12GB/256GB.
Oppo has not confirmed global release plans, and an earlier leak suggested the global Reno 16 Pro could ship with weaker specs than its Chinese counterpart.
