Onyx Opens $200 BOOX Go 6 Gen II Pre-Orders as 3GB RAM and Stylus Support Arrive

Boox’s app-access edge is likely strongest for the next two to four years, then it will gradually erode rather than disappear overnight. The reason is simple: the Go 6 (Gen II) ships in 2026 with Android 11, an operating system released in 2020 and already past Google’s main security-support window. That does not mean Kindle, Kobo, Libby, note apps, or cloud-sync tools will suddenly stop working. In practice, many reading and productivity apps support older Android versions for years. But once a device starts from an already old OS, the clock on compatibility is shorter. The bigger risk is not immediate breakage but slow decline. App developers regularly raise minimum Android requirements, and Google Play policies keep pushing the ecosystem toward newer API levels. Over time, some new apps will not install, and some existing apps will stop getting updates or lose features. Security-sensitive categories tend to drop old Android support sooner, while simpler reading apps often last longer. That means Boox’s “best of both worlds” pitch is real, but time-limited. For core ebook use across Kindle, Kobo, and library apps, the device could remain useful well into the late 2020s if those apps keep supporting Android 11. For broader Android flexibility, especially newer or more demanding apps, the advantage may narrow much sooner. So the Go 6’s app access is a meaningful benefit today, but buyers should treat it as a medium-term advantage, not a future-proof one.

$200 pre-orders are live for the 6-inch Onyx BOOX Go 6 Gen II, with the E Ink reader slated to begin shipping June 16.
3GB of RAM—up 50% from 2GB—and support for the optional InkSense Plus stylus are the main upgrades, turning the device into both an e-reader and note-taking tablet.
The stylus adds 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection and USB-C charging; bought separately it costs $42, while a bundle with the reader and case is priced at $233.
Most other specs stay the same, including a 300 ppi display, 32GB storage, 1,500 mAh battery, microSD slot and Android 11-based software.
That older Android version may limit some newer apps, though Onyx still positions the device primarily around reading and writing rather than general tablet use.
