Summary
October 6 is the release date for Gears of War: E-Day on PC and Xbox Series X|S, with an open beta set for August 6.
The Coalition said it chose a prequel over continuing Gears 5’s cliffhanger to revisit the series’ darker roots and take advantage of Unreal Engine 5 by rebuilding the game from scratch.
Three days of E-Day in the city of Kalona frame the story, following younger Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago 14 years before the first game as Locust forces overrun civilians.
New details include a revised active reload system, redesigned early Locust variants, and novel-based canon touches such as Tai Kaliso’s chainsaw rescue scene.
John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro return as Marcus and Dom, underscoring The Coalition’s push to preserve the franchise’s iconic identity while resetting its origin.
