Warframe Launches June 17 Destiny Tribute Event as 380,000 Fans Back Destiny 3 Petition

Q: Why is rival game Warframe launching an in-game event to help save the Destiny franchise?

Warframe is doing it as a show of solidarity and respect, not because it can literally determine Destiny’s future. Digital Extremes is using the event to publicly back the fan-led #SaveDestiny and #WeWantDestiny3 campaign after Destiny 2’s final update, while also paying tribute to a franchise that helped shape the looter-shooter genre. The June 17 Warframe Alert, “Make Your Own Fate,” is packed with Destiny references. It is set on Telesto, echoing Destiny’s famously bug-prone exotic weapon, and its title riffs on the line “Guardians make their own fate,” which has become a rallying cry for fans pushing Bungie and Sony to continue the series. That makes the event both a symbolic endorsement of the movement and a farewell-style homage. There is also a deeper industry and community reason. Warframe and Destiny have long been treated as rivals, but they share overlapping audiences and a long history in the same live-service space. Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford has said Bungie’s games were foundational to her and to the genre, arguing that “there is no Warframe without the legacy of Bungie games.” In that sense, the event reflects professional respect as much as competition. So the event is best understood as a public gesture of empathy and recognition: Warframe is honoring Destiny’s legacy, supporting a grieving player community, and amplifying the message that there is still strong demand for the franchise to continue.
