Summary
Surveillance footage and a police report show ICE agents tried to seize Konrad Darlak as he entered his car on North Nottingham Avenue, then pursued him to North Olcott Avenue, where the car hit a pole and tree.
DHS said the Tuesday operation targeted Darlak, whom it called a "criminal illegal alien" from Poland; after the crash he fled on foot and was arrested with what the agency described as minimum force.
Police records say Darlak reversed into one ICE vehicle and sideswiped another several times during the escape attempt, and agents later took him to Loyola Hospital in Maywood for observation.
Court records show prior guilty pleas including domestic battery, resisting a peace officer, retail theft and a 2024 DUI; the Tribune said it could not verify DHS's claim of an arrest for transporting dangerous materials.
The chase followed another ICE arrest in Albany Park last week and renewed scrutiny of enforcement in Chicago, where Operation Midway Blitz led to about 3,800 arrests and nearly 2,500 deportations over 64 days.
