Summary
One sailor died and four others were wounded after the Turkish-flagged fishing boat Duru 67 was attacked and sank west of Sevastopol in Crimea, Turkey’s Coast Guard said.
Five injured crew were pulled from the water by the trawler Burak Kaya; one died en route to Turkey before a Coast Guard vessel with a medical team met it 115 nautical miles north of Inebolu.
After a 15-hour return voyage, the survivors were taken to a hospital in Kastamonu with shrapnel wounds, including one sailor who underwent minor surgery aboard the Coast Guard ship.
No group immediately claimed responsibility, but shipping in waters off Ukraine has faced repeated attacks since Russia’s 2022 invasion, and Turkey last November condemned Ukrainian drone strikes on two Black Sea oil tankers.
