Summary
Damarcus David Jones, 28, was arrested Tuesday morning on a murder warrant after Berkeley police linked him to the death of his 37-year-old girlfriend.
Berkeley police said the woman appeared to have been killed in an assault, and Jones was taken into custody without incident in Dixon, Solano County.
The investigation began Saturday after the building's property manager called 911 at 11:48 a.m. on finding the woman's body in an apartment; firefighters pronounced her dead at 1 p.m.
Jones was booked into Berkeley Jail at 8:15 p.m. and remained held without bail Tuesday night, with arraignment scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m.
The killing was Berkeley's first homicide since January 2025; police have not released the cause of death, and the Alameda County DA is reviewing the case for charges.
