Summary
Eight runs over five innings against Baltimore pushed Boston to option Brayan Bello to Triple-A Worcester, with lefty reliever Joe La Sorsa set to join the active roster for the Bronx series opener.
Bello’s season line has cratered to a 6.34 ERA over 61 innings, with a career-low 15.6% strikeout rate, a 1.48 homer rate and severe trouble against left-handed hitters.
Boston had tried to shield him with left-handed openers four times; Bello posted a 0.71 ERA in those bulk outings, but the Red Sox still went 1-3 as the openers allowed early runs.
The demotion comes in year three of Bello’s $55 million extension after a 3.35 ERA across 166 2/3 innings in 2025, and rookie Jake Bennett looks like the leading candidate to cover his next turn.
