Water began flowing back into the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on Thursday, with live video showing workers and trucks still inside the freshly painted basin.
Wednesday marked completion of the repainting Trump calls “American flag blue,” and the administration told a court the pool would be fully refilled no later than Sunday.
Trump has put the project cost at $1.5 million to $2 million, but records show at least $14.8 million in contracts have been awarded.
The 2,000-foot pool is one of Washington’s best-known landmarks, and the refill revives a basin that previously held about 6.5 million gallons.
The project still faces criticism over spending and aesthetics, with a nonprofit lawsuit arguing the darker color makes the memorial site look like a theme park.
