Dan Sullivan’s re-election campaign said a newly declared Senate candidate with the same first and last name was recruited to confuse Alaska voters in the 2026 race.
Nate Adams, the Republican senator’s spokesman, accused former Rep. Mary Peltola and national Democrats of using a “sham candidate” to manipulate the state’s ranked-choice system and said legal options remain under review.
The challenger, Dan J. Sullivan, launched his campaign last week, identifies as a registered Republican, and says Sen. Dan S. Sullivan has failed to put Alaska first.
Peltola’s campaign denied any involvement with either Sullivan campaign, while the DSCC and the other Sullivan’s campaign did not immediately respond.
Alaska sends the top 4 primary finishers to the November general election regardless of party, making name confusion a potential factor ahead of the Aug. 18 primary.
