NRSC Seeks to Strike Dan J. Sullivan From Alaska's Aug. 18 Ballot as Name Clash Risks Voter Confusion

A Monday letter from the NRSC asked Alaska election officials to remove Dan J. Sullivan — a former teacher unrelated to Sen. Dan S. Sullivan — before the Aug. 18 primary, calling him a “sham” candidate.
Republicans argue the identical name could mislead voters under Alaska’s top-four primary and ranked-choice system, especially if both Sullivans advance to the November ballot in a race Democrats are targeting.
Campaign metadata tied the newcomer’s launch announcement to progressive consultant Amber Lee, who previously backed Democrat Mary Peltola, though Peltola’s campaign said she had no involvement.
Dan J. Sullivan’s website emphasizes the name overlap and lists no policy positions, while the NRSC says Alaska rules bar ballot names that are confusing or misleading and wants officials to enforce them.
