1 Million-Square-Foot Warehouse Proposal for Wild Waves Site Sparks Housing Debate

A 1 million-square-foot industrial warehouse has been proposed for the 66-acre Wild Waves site in Federal Way, setting up a fight over what should replace the longtime water park.
On KIRO Newsradio, Ursula Reutin argued the land should help ease Western Washington’s housing shortage, while Gee Scott said affordable housing is needed but apartments next to a freeway are the wrong fit.
Neighbors told KOMO the warehouse could push more semitrucks onto Federal Way backstreets and worsen traffic, though Scott said the freeway-adjacent location makes industrial use understandable.
The dispute highlights a broader land-use tradeoff for the site: logistics development near a highway versus housing in a region still struggling with affordability.
