Pixel devices begin getting Google’s new fake call detection this month, with the feature enabled by default on Android 12+ phones and aimed at AI voice-cloning scams.
RCS powers a silent, end-to-end encrypted handshake that verifies a call from a saved contact is actually coming from that person’s device in real time.
If that confirmation is missing, the phone checks the contact’s real device; when it reports no call is being made, Android warns the user to hang up immediately.
The protection works only when both caller and recipient use Android, Phone by Google, Google Messages and Google Contacts, though Google says other apps and device makers could adopt it.
