Paul Kanitra said his daughter Katie was killed when Julio Cucul-Bol, an intoxicated undocumented immigrant, rear-ended her vehicle at nearly 80 mph while it was stopped at a light.
At Delaney Hall in Newark, the New Jersey assemblyman said the crash pushed him to examine immigration policy and conclude that weak enforcement and sanctuary-style policies carry deadly real-world consequences.
Kanitra cited Center for Immigration Studies data to argue recent migrant flows have lower educational attainment, which he said increases pressure on schools, hospitals, housing and welfare systems.
He tied that broader critique to Cucul-Bol's case, saying the Guatemalan national used a Mexican alias in Illinois and admitted in court through an interpreter that he had no formal education.
The remarks framed Katie's death as part of a wider argument that Biden-Harris border policies and state-level migrant benefits shift fiscal and social costs onto U.S. communities.
