Police records show Spears’ March stop began after a driver reported high-speed swerving, and an officer then saw her cross into another lane multiple times.
Officers reported a strong alcohol odor, red watery eyes, an empty wine glass in the car and Adderall not prescribed to her, while Spears said she had taken several medications that day.
Spears allegedly refused to leave the vehicle for sobriety testing, became argumentative at the scene and hospital, and was eventually handcuffed after tests proved difficult to complete.
Breath tests and blood results measured 0.05 and 0.06—below the legal limit—helping lead to a plea deal that reduced the misdemeanor DUI to reckless driving after she voluntarily entered rehab.
The agreement requires 12 months probation, a three-month substance abuse program, a $571 fine and one day in jail with credit for time served.
