Thursday’s announcement said the House Ethics Committee is examining whether Chuck Edwards created a hostile work environment and engaged in sexual harassment.
Axios reported one former female staffer told others Edwards pressured her to get dinner and drinks, then later sent a note saying she had “written a complex chapter in my heart.”
Edwards called the allegations baseless and said he would fully cooperate, while Speaker Mike Johnson described the claims as serious but said due process should play out.
The bipartisan panel stressed that opening and disclosing an investigation does not itself mean any violation occurred.
