More than 1 million copies of Subnautica 2 were sold within its first day, while Steam showed over 460,000 concurrent players, making it the platform’s fourth-most played game.
That surge followed heavy pre-release demand: the game had 5 million wishlists on Steam and entered early access as the sequel to the well-received Subnautica series.
Steam’s count excludes players on the Epic Games Store and Xbox, where the game also launched in early access, suggesting total concurrent players were higher.
The release comes after a legal fight between Unknown Worlds executives and owner Krafton, a delay from a planned 2025 early-access launch, and a March court ruling that reinstated the studio’s CEO.
Unknown Worlds now expects Subnautica 2 to remain in early access for about two to three years.
