Max Miller filed suit against ex-wife Emily Moreno and her legal team, alleging they ran a defamatory campaign during custody proceedings that damaged his reputation, business prospects and congressional re-election fundraising.
The complaint follows reports earlier this month that Moreno accused Miller of throwing boiling water at her in front of their child and included photos of apparent injuries; Miller publicly called the allegations lies.
Miller is seeking damages to be proved at trial, saying the claims caused lost business opportunities and reduced campaign contributions. Moreno's attorney declined comment, and a spokesperson for Sen. Bernie Moreno also had no comment.
The lawsuit lands as House scrutiny of member misconduct intensifies, with three lawmakers resigning in five weeks and ethics investigators pursuing other cases against sitting members.
