An 84-page final report from the Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee says fraud across state programs reached up to $9 billion, with Walz's administration fostering a "culture of tolerance."
The panel said weak program design, low barriers to entry and suppressed whistleblower warnings let serial fraudsters exploit more than a dozen Medicaid programs, alongside about $300 million in meal-program fraud.
Investigators tied the Feeding Our Future scandal to earlier unaddressed fraud in the Child Care Assistance Program and said Walz wrongly blamed a court order for resumed payments that a judge later said were voluntary.
The report also said Democrats resisted parts of the probe, including blocking a subpoena effort targeting Rep. Ilhan Omar, while criticizing her MEALS Act for loosening safeguards in nutrition programs.
With the committee's session work finished, Chair Kristin Robbins said she wants it renewed after November's election and plans to keep sending whistleblower-based cases to federal investigators, including the FBI and U.S. attorney.
