UKMTO said unauthorized personnel boarded a vessel at anchor 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah on Thursday, and it was later heading toward Iranian territorial waters.
Vanguard said the ship's security officer reported Iranian personnel took the vessel at 0545 GMT, after which contact was lost and its AIS tracking signal went dark.
Two maritime security sources identified the ship as the Honduras-flagged Hui Chuan, a fishery research vessel operated by Marshall Islands-based SG Navigation, which could not be reached for comment.
MarineTraffic data showed the vessel was last seen on May 12 in the Gulf of Oman within Iran's exclusive economic zone, and the seizure marks at least the third such incident since the February 28 U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.
