May 13 contact from Samsung followed a South Korean user's report that a Galaxy S24 caught fire in their hand during normal use on May 11, leaving them treated for burns, smoke inhalation and anxiety.
The user said the phone was not charging, had not been dropped or opened, and swelled rapidly before bursting into flames while they were browsing the internet.
Firefighters were called, and the user said the fire department identified the cause as lithium battery ignition; Samsung's local service center is now collecting records as part of its investigation.
The case adds to scrutiny after a separate Galaxy S25 Plus fire report in October, when Samsung also said it had opened an investigation.
