The first clip from Leah Nelson’s animated feature “Tangles” has been released before its special Cannes screening on Thursday, showing the family’s first moments after the mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
The film follows Sarah, who leaves her activist-artist life in 1990s San Francisco to return to her conservative hometown as her mother’s condition worsens, forcing her to balance family strain, a new relationship and career ambitions.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Abbi Jacobson, Bryan Cranston, Beanie Feldstein and Seth Rogen lead a voice cast that also includes Samira Wiley, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, Bowen Yang, Pamela Adlon and Fern Grandin.
Written by Leah Nelson with Sarah Leavitt and Trev Renney, the film is produced by Monarch Media, Point Grey Pictures, Giant Ant Films and LYLAS Pictures, with UTA and CAA handling domestic sales and Charades international sales.
Cannes visibility for the project will extend beyond the screening: Louis-Dreyfus is also set to record a live Awards Chatter episode on the Croisette the same day.
