Apple Backs Google Against EU Android AI Rules, Citing July DMA Decision

Apple told the European Commission that draft rules forcing Google to give rival AI assistants Android access comparable to Gemini would create major privacy, security and safety risks for European users.
The company said broad access could let outside AI systems interact with apps used for email, food orders and photo sharing, while unpredictable AI behavior could also threaten device integrity and performance.
Google has made similar objections, arguing the measures would weaken user protections and raise costs, even as the Commission says the changes are needed to give third-party AI providers an equal chance to compete.
The dispute sits inside the EU's Digital Markets Act push to open dominant platforms: proceedings began in January, draft measures were issued in April, and a final Commission decision is expected by July 27.
