Mexico City drew a large crowd on May 12 as U2 filmed “Street of Dreams” atop a graffiti-wrapped school bus, with Larry Mullen Jr. back on drums.
Mullen had missed most band activity, including the 40-night Sphere residency in 2023 and 2024, while recovering from neck and back surgeries.
He recently rejoined U2 in the studio for the six-song EP “Days of Ash” and follow-up EP “Easter Lily,” which preceded the band’s first full album since 2017’s “Songs of Experience.”
Bono said the new material leans toward celebration and a “carnival vibe,” though the album still has no announced title or release date beyond later this year.
Sept. 25 will mark 50 years since U2’s first rehearsal sessions in Dublin, giving added weight to Mullen’s return for the long-awaited album cycle.
