Google said Instagram on Android 17 and Samsung’s One UI 9.0 will deliver higher-quality photos, steadier video and faster editing, part of a push to win iPhone users and creators.
Ultra HDR capture, Night Sight in low light and pipeline changes from shooting through upload are meant to preserve maximum image quality; Google said UVQ tests showed flagship Android results matched or beat iPhones.
Instagram’s Edits app now uses on-device AI on Android for Smart Enhance upscaling, noise reduction and brightness fixes, while Sound Separation splits audio into adjustable layers.
The update also fully optimizes Instagram for foldables and tablets, and Google is widening support for the APV pro-video codec in Android 17.
