Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, warned Donald Trump not to treat the Iran-US ceasefire as a victory before his May 13-15 visit to Beijing.
The warning followed Trump’s remark that the 1-month ceasefire is on “massive life support,” with both Iran and the United States still blocking the Strait of Hormuz despite the halt in fighting.
China confirmed the trip and said it is ready to work with Washington for “more stability” as Trump and Xi Jinping prepare talks on trade, security and wider global tensions.
The agenda is expected to include tariffs, rare earth access, market access for Chinese firms such as BYD, Boeing and US farm deals, as well as Taiwan and nuclear security.
China’s role in any Iran-US de-escalation remains unconfirmed, but speculation persists because Beijing buys Iranian oil despite US sanctions and says it has worked “tirelessly for peace.”
