American Express Adds $300 ChatGPT Credit to 2 Business Cards as AI Use Reaches 56%

$300 in annual statement credits for U.S. ChatGPT Business purchases are now available on Amex Business Platinum and Business Gold cards for new and existing cardholders, with enrollment required.
Amex tied the benefit to rising AI adoption: a May 2025 Amex Trendex survey of 1,108 U.S. small businesses found 56% already use AI.
The credit is relatively simple compared with many card perks—the first $300 in eligible spending is reimbursed rather than split into monthly or quarterly caps.
At ChatGPT Business pricing of $25 per seat monthly or $20 annually with a two-seat minimum, the credit can cover six months of monthly service or offset much of a yearly plan.
The new perk helps soften the cards' high annual fees—$375 for Business Gold and $895 for Business Platinum—as Amex pushes more business-service benefits alongside travel rewards.
Is Amex's $300 AI credit a valuable tool or just a clever way to justify its high annual fees?
Is Amex's OpenAI partnership a glimpse into AI-driven commerce or a risky bet on one platform in a commoditizing market?
