NBC News and the AP called Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District Democratic primary for Denise Powell after a count that had remained too close to call earlier Wednesday.
About 1,000 votes separated Powell and John Cavanaugh with roughly 9,700 ballots left before the race was called; overnight returns had widened Powell’s edge to 1,080 votes.
Powell, who said her campaign was the first Latina bid for federal office in Nebraska history, declared herself ready to spend the next six months competing for every vote.
