A 218-203 House vote approved year-round sales of E15 gasoline, ending a long-running fight over a fuel blend long backed by farm-state lawmakers.
Ninety-five Democrats joined Republicans to pass the bill, overcoming opposition from 90 Republicans, including members tied to small refineries and the Freedom Caucus.
The measure would lift Clean Air Act limits that block summertime E15 sales; both Democratic and Republican administrations, including Trump’s this year, have relied on temporary waivers instead.
E15 contains 15% ethanol and can be cheaper at the pump because corn costs less than regular gasoline, though the blend can also contribute to smog.
The bill now moves to the Senate, where its prospects are uncertain, even as House passage hands Midwestern Republicans a win ahead of tight midterm races.
If E15 is a win for drivers and farmers, why is it still nearly impossible to find at the pump?
