Carson Hocevar said his mother was more excited by his Met Gala appearance than by his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at Talladega last month.
At Indianapolis Motor Speedway during Day 2 of Indy 500 practice, the 22-year-old told FOX's IndyCar booth that winning Talladega was "cool and everything," but the gala felt like a bigger milestone to her.
Hocevar also said the invitation came from Met Gala organizers through NASCAR, not from a sponsor or a NASCAR-paid table, making the appearance unusual for the sport.
The visit made Hocevar the first NASCAR driver to attend the Met Gala since Jeff Gordon in 2010, giving NASCAR a rare pop-culture showcase beyond the track.
