$1 billion for White House ballroom security has been added to Republicans’ reconciliation bill to fund ICE and Border Patrol through a three-year package they want passed by June 1.
Republicans turned to budget reconciliation because Democrats, still angry no ICE reforms followed this winter’s events in Minnesota, are unwilling to supply votes for the funding measure.
The ballroom money has complicated GOP support as well: Sen. Lisa Murkowski and several House Republicans said they need detailed justification, even after Secret Service Director Sean Curran defended the request.
