Knife-Wielding Man Hijacks CTA Bus for 6.5 Miles as 57-Year-Old Driver Escapes Through Window

A 57-year-old CTA driver escaped through a bus window after a knife-wielding passenger commandeered her No. 53 Pulaski bus around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday in Logan Square.
Police said the man pulled a sharp object and ordered that the bus “not stop,” forcing the driver to keep going until she got out and triggered a response.
The suspect fled but was arrested quickly, later taken into custody in the Gold Coast after the bus traveled about 6.5 miles; no injuries were reported and charges were pending.
CTA said it is pushing for felony charges and will assist investigators, while praising police for the suspect’s immediate apprehension.
The attack adds to safety concerns on the transit system even as CTA has cited a decline in serious crime.
