1 man was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in stable condition after prosecutors said Dalton Eatherly opened fire during a 1:15 p.m. confrontation outside the Montgomery County Courts Center in Clarksville.
Eatherly appears to have shot himself in the arm in the process, District Attorney Robert Nash said, and responding deputies took both men into custody after the courthouse was locked down.
Witnesses described a fight in Millennium Plaza before the gunfire, with one saying a man punched Eatherly and another reporting three to four shots.
Formal charges had not been filed by Wednesday afternoon as the DA's office reviewed the law-enforcement investigation, while Sheriff John Fuson said courthouse deputies likely prevented a worse outcome.
Eatherly, known online as “Chud the Builder,” had posted racial slurs and threats days earlier and was due in court that day in a civil case; he also faces prior harassment and recent Nashville arrest cases.
