Snapseed 4.0 relaunches as a free overhaul of Google’s long-dormant editor, adding a redesigned interface, non-destructive editing, batch processing and new masking and layer tools.
The update aims to make advanced edits faster without complexity: auto subject selection handles targeted adjustments, saved “looks” can be reused, and older favorites like HDR-Scape remain in place.
A built-in camera now lets users shoot and edit in one app, with live film-style previews, pro controls and zoom options, though the camera lacks basics such as grid and level guides.
That leaves Snapseed positioned as a companion to Google Photos rather than a replacement, offering more hands-on, AI-light editing but missing Magic Eraser-style cleanup and some quick sky-edit tools.
