Jim Furyk said Tiger Woods will have a place on the U.S. staff for the 2027 Ryder Cup, though the captain has not yet spoken with him since Woods' March 27 arrest.
Woods stepped away from golf four days after a two-car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, saying he would seek treatment and focus on his health; he was later allowed to travel abroad for that treatment.
The arrest brought two misdemeanor charges — DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test — even though Woods recorded 0.00 on two breath samples and was charged after refusing a urine test.
Furyk said Woods had brought knowledge, experience and value to past team rooms as a vice-captain, making him a natural fit for some role on the 2027 staff.
Woods had been viewed as a leading candidate to captain either the 2025 or 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup team, but the PGA of America turned to Furyk after the crash; the event starts Sept. 17, 2027, at Adare Manor in Ireland.
