Tim Brando said Lane Kiffin's Vanity Fair comments on Ole Miss, diversity and segregation were "offensive" and warned they could stir racial tensions "down the road."
Kiffin had said Ole Miss lost some recruits because of a lack of diversity and that LSU's campus felt like "there's no segregation," then tried to walk the remarks back as factual rather than hostile.
Brando, speaking on OutKick with Dan Dakich, said Kiffin knowingly took the issue to a broad audience, reigniting painful history that people who lived through the Jim Crow South do not need revisited.
He also dismissed Kiffin's follow-up statement to On3 as a "God-awful" and "pathetic" apology, arguing the new LSU coach's "narcissism" keeps fueling unnecessary controversy.
The flare-up adds off-field risk for LSU even as Kiffin, introduced in December after landing a $91 million deal, is still viewed as capable of delivering a national title.
Is Lane Kiffin exposing a hard truth about recruiting in the South or just justifying his $91 million betrayal of Ole Miss?
