Manny Malhotra has emerged as a Toronto target after Craig Berube’s firing, with Sportsnet reporting the Maple Leafs are open to hiring a first-time NHL head coach.
The 45-year-old Abbotsford Canucks coach won the Calder Cup in his first AHL season and brings Toronto familiarity after serving on the Leafs’ staff from 2020 to 2024.
Bruce Cassidy is also expected to draw Toronto’s interest, though Elliotte Friedman said his win-now approach may not fit a Maple Leafs team whose direction appears less immediate.
Vegas has not yet granted permission for any Cassidy talks, even after the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings also asked to speak with the Golden Knights coach.
