A 27-year-old independent contractor died after encountering a black bear over the weekend at UraniumX Discovery Corp.'s remote Zoo Bay exploration site, about 53 miles northeast of Points North Landing.
Saskatchewan's Wildlife Human Attack Response Team is investigating, while a civilian on scene shot and killed the bear before officers arrived; the animal was sent for a necropsy.
UraniumX paused all field operations at the property as a precaution, and local authorities said fatal bear attacks in Saskatchewan are rare, with the last recorded one about six years ago.
The attack came the same day Saskatchewan warned residents about hungry bears seeking food near homes and campsites, underscoring broader concern over rising human-bear encounters.
