Sasha Luccioni and former Salesforce sustainability chief Boris Gamazaychikov have launched Sustainable AI Group to help companies measure and reduce AI’s environmental impact as demand for disclosure rises.
4 years after Luccioni began pushing AI-emissions transparency at Hugging Face, she says businesses now face employee, board and ESG pressure to quantify where models run, what grids power them and their supply-chain emissions.
The venture will advise companies on choosing less energy-intensive models and mapping the energy needs of tools such as speech-to-text and photo-to-video, an area Luccioni says remains understudied.
Luccioni argues big AI providers still withhold key energy and sustainability data, and says simple usage disclosures—such as per-query energy and emissions meters—could become a competitive advantage.
