May 13 marked the debut of all eight Off Campus episodes on Prime Video, with author-producer Elle Kennedy saying the adaptation improves on parts of her books.
Kennedy singled out one key change: Justin, Hannah Wells' crush, is now a musician instead of a football player, a shift she said better fits Hannah and gives Garrett Graham a clearer rival.
That rewrite also helps the plot work onscreen, linking Justin to the same social circle as Briar University's hockey players so Garrett and Justin can plausibly know each other.
Kennedy said she cared less about preserving every book detail than keeping the series' core dynamic intact — Garrett and Hannah's trust, banter and slow-burn romance from friendship to love.
Prime Video has already renewed the adaptation, based on the first of Kennedy's five Off Campus novels, for a second season.
