Jovan Trevino, 38, was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree murder for drowning her 4-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter in bathtubs in July 2021.
Court testimony said Trevino had taken a sleeping aid and alcohol before the killings; she apologized and told the judge she was not in her "right mind" and had been in the darkest place of her life.
District Judge Carli Kierny said Trevino would live out the rest of her life in a jail cell, while Clark County prosecutor John Giordani called the case one of the most extreme instances of matricide he had seen in 15 years.
Victim impact statements from the children's father, Christopher Fox, and grandmother, Shawna Fox, focused on the brutality of leaving the children dead in the tubs and on remembering them as joyful, loving children.
