Jose “Joe” Ceballos, 54, turned himself in at the ICE detention center on North Woodlawn in east Wichita around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Protesters began gathering outside the facility around 10 a.m. as the former Coldwater mayor reported to ICE while facing possible deportation.
ICE later detained Ceballos after his surrender; the green card holder had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor illegal voting charges and is expected to fight removal.
