Bezeq has begun deploying a high-speed subsea cable linking Europe and Asia, a 500 million shekel ($172 million) project its chairman said will add backup capacity outside the Strait of Hormuz.
About 17% of global broadband traffic passes through Hormuz, largely from Qatar and India, and Bezeq said the new route should ease congestion for Gulf countries while strengthening Europe-Asia connectivity.
The more than 400-terabyte cable system will take two years to deploy, with a European partner to be announced soon and two additional subsea cables planned later this year.
Bezeq paired the launch with quarterly results showing adjusted net profit rose to 300 million shekels from 288 million, while it kept its 2026 profit outlook at 1.0 billion-1.1 billion shekels.
The project also fits Israel's push to become a regional digital hub as security concerns linger around Hormuz, even though Bezeq said existing cables there are unlikely to be damaged.
