Unreal Engine 5.8 Preview now includes experimental support for Valve’s Steam Frame, with a new OpenXR immersive packaging setting enabled by default in the VR template.
Qualcomm has also given Steam Frame a dedicated product page, identifying the headset as powered by its 4 nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip — another sign the device is nearing launch.
Valve has already published Steamworks compatibility guidance for developers, including a performance overlay to measure resolution and frame rate before submission.
The requirements set a floor of 30 fps at 1280x720 for 2D games and 72 fps at 1728x1728 for VR; VR titles below 1440x1440 will carry an Unsupported badge.
Taken together, the engine support, chip disclosure and public certification rules suggest Valve is building out the software and hardware ecosystem ahead of a Steam Frame announcement.
